The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Freeze Watch, in effect from Friday at 10 p.m. through Saturday at 8 a.m., for the counties of Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin (AL), Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 26 are possible over portions of north central, northeast and northwest Alabama.

Frost and freezing conditions could kill crops or other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
