BAILEYTON, Ala. – The Baileyton Town Council Monday night announced the Town will host a meeting Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7 a.m. at the Baileyton Senior Center with Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman and Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview. Invited to attend the meeting are mayors and council members from Baileyton, Berlin, Fairview, Holly Pond, Vinemont and Hanceville, along with members of the Cullman County Commission and Cullman County Board of Education. The council said the meeting will be about projects the named municipalities would like to see completed in the coming year.
The council reversed its decision to enter into an agreement with Sweetwater Security. After receiving a bill from the company for charges and fees the council said were not mentioned or disclosed by Harold Nelson with Sweetwater Security at Baileyton’s July 1 council meeting, Mayor Johnny Dyar said he felt the billing was dishonest. The council agreed and will look for other companies locally.
More lights will be installed at Baileyton’s park due to unused money from a Cullman County Community Development Commission (CCCDC) grant received earlier this year. The Town was left with just more than $3,000 to spend to close out the grant. The council agreed to order and install 22 more lights and poles for the park. The Town will provide the labor to install the lights.
Coming up this weekend is the seventh annual Roger Latham Memorial Horse Show. The event will start at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9-10, and admission is free. Walking horses will show on Friday evening at 6. Racking horses will show on Saturday evening at 6. Concessions will be available, with proceeds going to the Parkside Jr. High and Fairview High School girls’ basketball teams. Baileyton Park Horse Arena is located at 600 Fire Station Road.
