CULLMAN – A Jones Chapel man set to appear in court in January to face a manslaughter charge in the December 2017 death of his son on Monday night led Cullman Police on a chase after fleeing a traffic stop.

According to Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper, Donald Wayne Trammell, 43, fled the scene when Officer Cole Kelley attempted to pull him over. It happened at 5:25 p.m.

"He went from (Highway) 278 West to I-65, north on I-65 to (Highway) 157, got off on 157 and went to St. Joseph and came back down and turned on Rosemont, which would have come out by West Elementary and 278, but he turned right on 12th Way, which is the housing authority right there behind our police substation on Rosemont, and ran until the road ran out there," said Culpepper. "He was attempting to turn around and Officer Kelley was able to pin him in right there and took him into custody."

Culpepper said he believes Trammell may have outstanding warrants with the Cullman County Sheriff's Office.

"He's being charged with multiple traffic offenses, attempting to elude and reckless endangerment by the Cullman Police Department," he said.

Culpepper said multiple CPD units were involved in the pursuit, but no one was injured.

He said the whole event lasted about 10 minutes.
