Kim Searcy addresses the Colony Town Council

COLONY – Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama (GSNCA) is looking for a few good girls…around Colony.  The closest troop to the community is located in Good Hope, a fair distance.  Parents of girls who want to be scouts may have difficulty making the commute.  The Scouts hope to solve that problem.

Kim Searcy, recruitment and community engagement specialist for GSNCA, came to the Colony Town Council meeting Feb. 28 to present a plan to establish a new troop in the town.  Her first order of business is to determine the level of interest in the area, so she's putting out the word.

"There's just not a lot of girls that come from this side of the county," said Searcy, "and I want to make sure that I can reach them."

In the next few weeks, she will also be visiting Hanceville, Dodge City and Cold Springs.  The initial target group for recruitment will be girls in kindergarten through the fifth grade.  Searcy says she wants to hear from older girls as well, and they will be developed as leaders to help teach younger girls.

If you live in the Colony area (not just in the town), and are the parent of a girl who might be interested in joining the Girl Scouts, you can contact Kim Searcy at ksearcy@girlscoutsnca.org or call 800-734-4541, ext. 1006.
