HANCEVILLE – Two Cullman men were arrested in Hanceville this week after a routine traffic stop in which the suspects allegedly tossed a bag of narcotics from the passenger window of the vehicle.

According to Hanceville Police Sgt. Rob Long, Officer John Davidson was patrolling a residential neighborhood when he observed two subjects in a vehicle with an expired tag. The tag was also switched. Davidson proceeded to conduct a traffic stop.

“As they made a turn a small black bag came out of the passenger window and landed on the concrete,” said Long.

The driver, Joshua Hanners, 28, did not have a current driver’s license. His passenger, Dustin Boone, 27, turned out to have an outstanding warrant with the Blountsville Police Department.

Long arrived on the scene to assist Davidson, and the black bag was retrieved and the contents examined. Approximately 29.4 grams of ICE (Methamphetamine), a glass smoking pipe and digital scales were inside.

Neither subject claimed the black bag, so both were arrested for drug trafficking- methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.

The men were taken to the Hanceville Police Department for paperwork and then transported to the Cullman County Detention Center.

“We are happy to get these drugs off the streets of Hanceville,” said Long. “(This is) a great example of how a simple traffic stop can turn into getting drug traffickers off of our streets. Good job by patrol.”
