HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s women’s basketball coasted past Blue Mountain (Miss.) College JV on Friday, receiving scoring contributions from 13 players en route to a 92-27 victory at Tom Drake Coliseum.

Sophomore Kelsey Houston poured in a game-high 16 points off the bench for Wallace State, leading five Lady Lions in double figures. Jemaiya Lee had 13 points off the bench, Jaishala Seal scored a career-high 12 points, Jasmine Hollis added 11 and Alexis Cooper contributed a career-high 10 points off the bench.

Wallace State (7-3) yielded a season-low 27 points three days after allowing only 36 points to Columbia State on the road.

“We’ve been playing good defense, and the team is beginning to buy in that defense is going to win games for us. The offense will follow,” said Wallace State coach Ron Burdette, whose team played its first home game since Nov. 8. “It was good to get some players in who haven’t been playing a lot and get them some experience. It helps them mentally as we move forward.”

Sophomore Morgan Higgins added six points for the Lady Lions.

Wallace State led comfortably throughout. The Lady Lions jumped out a 13-0 lead with 5:04 to go in the first quarter. Hollis scored seven of Wallace State’s opening 13 points.

Wallace State led 27-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Lions pushed their lead to 45-15 with 3:30 remaining in the second quarter on a Cooper 3-pointer.

The Lady Lions held a 47-15 cushion at the half and a 65-25 advantage after three quarters.

Wallace State limited Blue Mountain College to only two points in the final quarter.

Carley Hughes led Blue Mountain with 11 points.

Wallace State’s next game is Dec. 14 at Chattahoochee Valley CC.

On Tuesday, Wallace State breezed by Columbia State, 70-36, in Tennessee.

Lee had 12 points for Wallace State off the bench, Hollis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and Higgins, Joy Sadler, Alex Lowery, Karlie Hudson and Alexis Osteen scored six points apiece.
