WATERLOO, Ala. – The Class 1A second-ranked Addison Bulldogs traveled to the far northwest corner of the state and took on the Waterloo Cougars at lovely Danny Ditto Stadium on Friday night. Where the Cougars won tonight was in the battle of the scoreboards, as they have a state of the art video board that Addison could have broken, as the Bulldogs rolled over the hapless Cougars 60-7.
Addison’s Michael Lee kicked off, and the Cougars took over at their own 35. On the game’s very first offensive snap, Addison’s Connor Lane picked off a Cougar bomb at the ‘Dawg 23 and returned it all the way down to the Waterloo two-yard line, setting Addison up with great field position. Addison’s first offensive snap had Elijah Roberts handing off to Zane Smith, who took it in from the two for a touchdown. Lane kicked the extra point, and with 11:36 to go in the first quarter, Addison led 7-0.
Addison forced a Cougar punt and took over at the ‘Dawg 30-yard line and six plays later, Roberts found Lane for a 35-yard touchdown pass and after Lane kicked the extra point Addison led 14-0 with 8:31 left in the first.
After another Waterloo three-and-out, it took Addison just two plays to go 39 yards for their next score. Roberts hit Judah Wilkins for 10 yards, and then found Lane for 29 yards and the touchdown. The extra point was no good and the ‘Dawgs led 20-0, still in the first quarter.
After an exchange of possessions, Waterloo was forced to punt from their own eight yard line. A bad snap had the punter running for his life and he only made it to the Cougar 6-yard line before being tackled. Addison took over inside the red zone, and Roberts ran it in from the six for the touchdown. The extra point was missed again, and the Bulldogs led 26-0 in the second quarter.
Addison’s Silas Frazier picked off the Cougar quarterback, and Addison took over at their own 49-yard line. Roberts broke loose for a 35-yard run and followed that up with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Scout Flynn. Once more, the extra point was missed, and with 9:28 to go in the second quarter, Addison led 32-0.Â
On Addison’s next possession, the reserves were in and it took them a total of four plays to go 56 yards for the touchdown. Addison Freshman QB Zeke Wiggins completed two passes to Frazier and Tanner Gaither to get down to the Cougar 25 yard line. They then turned to Joey Wilson who ran the ball twice and scored from eight yards out for the touchdown. Lane kicked the extra point, and with 6:36 to go in the first half, it was all Bulldogs 39-0.
After another Waterloo punt, the ‘Dawgs went 50-yards in three plays for the Wilson 2-yard touchdown plunge. The big play on the drive was a Wilson 40-yard run. Lane nailed the extra point and the half would end with Addison up 46-0. Waterloo never crossed midfield in the first half and had just three first downs.
The second half started with a running clock and Waterloo receiving the ball. After the stingy Bulldog defense forced the punt, Addison’s young pups took six plays to travel 69 yards for another touchdown. Wiggins found Carson McCaleb for the 15-yard touchdown pass. The Lane extra point put Addison up 53-0 with just 11 seconds to go in the third quarter.
Then, on the Waterloo Cougars next possession, on a fourth-and-eight play from their own 41, the Cougar QB, running for his life, threw up a prayer and it found an open receiver who caught it about the Bulldog 15 yard line, and ran it in for the touchdown. It was the first points Addison has allowed this season. The extra point was good and with only 5:19 to go in the fourth quarter, the lead was cut to 53-7.
The young Bulldogs seemed to take offense at giving up those points and even with a running clock, they drove right down the field for 77 yards and the touchdown. Wiggins hit Preuitt Woods for 30 yards, Kash Turner ran for 18, Wiggins ran for 13 and then Turner got down to the one on a 14-yard run. After an Addison penalty, Turner took it in from six yards out for the final Addison touchdown. Lane kicked the extra point and with only 1:50 left in the game, Addison led 60-7.
The game would end with that score, and Addison improved to 3-0 (1-0 region). Addison will next travel to Phillips Bear Creek next Friday and play the Bears in another region contest.

Addison ran 18 running plays for 267 yards and 15 passing plays for 193 yards, for a total of 33 plays for a total of 460 yards. Waterloo ran 29 running plays for (-4 yards) and 17 passing plays for 113 yards with a total of 46 total plays and 109 total yards.
Roberts went 4-8 for 90 yards and three touchdowns and an interception and Wiggins went 6-7 for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Roberts had five carries for 94 yards and a touchdown, Turner went six carries for 81 yards and a touchdown, Wilson had four carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns and Smith had two carries for 12 yards and a touchdown.
Lane had two catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns, Flynn had one catch for 16 yards and a touchdown, McCaleb had one catch for 15 yards and a touchdown, Gaither had two catches for 34 yards, Woods had one catch for 30 yards, Frazier had one catch for eight yards, Judah Wilkins had one catch for 10 yards.
On defense the ‘Dawgs were led by Nick Nail with six tackles, and Wilkins was next with five tackles. Brady Daniel, Tanner Morgan and McCaleb had four tackles each, Smith had three tackles and Wilson, Turner, Cory Frock, Robert Gilmore Jr, Tucker “Rubble” Hayes, Liam Spohr and Bryn Lake had two tackles each.
Lane and Frazier each had an interception.
