Councilwoman Jenny Folsom presents the council's resolution to CHS cheerleading coach Erica Ball, with the team and staff in attendance.

CULLMAN – The Cullman City Council met Monday evening, with several orders of business before its members.  Mayor Woody Jacobs and all council members were present.

The council accepted the minutes of the Nov. 14 meeting, before moving to committee reports.

Only one report was offered: Councilwoman Jenny Folsom, for the General Government Committee and on behalf of the council, recognized the Cullman High School (CHS) competition cheerleading team, which was present at the meeting.  The team recently won the state 6A cheerleading competition and qualified to participate in the upcoming National High School Cheerleading Competition in Orlando, Florida.  Folsom gave special commendation to coaches Erica Ball and Stacie Owen, and to assistant Jared Hansom.  She presented to the team a signed council resolution offering an "expression of pride in the accomplishments, sportsmanship and inspired teamwork of the 2016 6A State Championship Competition Cheer Team of Cullman High School."

Jacobs brought no mayor's report.  With no public comments, hearings, requests or petitions, the council moved to the three resolutions on the agenda.

Resolution 2017-23 authorizes a renewal of the City's existing lease of the building located at 925 Convent Road NE to the North Alabama Association for Alcoholism, dba The Lighthouse, Inc.  This motion was tabled until the next meeting, pending the presentation of information to the City attorney.

Resolution 2017-24 authorizes the surplus sale of numerous unneeded items in the City's inventory, including several vehicles, furniture and office equipment.  This motion passed.

Resolution 2017-25 authorizes a new pay matrix and job classifications for City employees.  Under the new matrix, the lowest entry level pay range for City employees will start at $11 per hour.  Police officers will start at $15.62 per hour, and firefighters (on a 106-hour schedule instead of 80 hours) will start at $11.79 per hour.  This motion passed, and will take effect in the upcoming pay period beginning Nov. 30.

The Cullman City Council meets in the Cullman City Hall auditorium on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.  The public is invited to attend. The next meeting will be on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
