CULLMAN, Ala. – The City of Cullman Planning Commission moved forward on several recommendations at its meeting on Monday night after five public hearings.
A public hearing was held and short form subdivision approved for property located at Third Avenue Southeast and Fourth Street Southeast. Owners of the All Steak Restaurant wanted one-third of the property for extra parking for its customers.
A public hearing was held for the subdivision of land near Lake Catoma into five lots, with a recommendation passed to the Cullman City Council.
A zoning ordinance amendment was recommended after a public hearing regarding car washes. Previously, car washes were permitted on property zoned B-1, B-2 and B-3. The commission recommended an amendment that would allow conditional use car washes only on property zoned B-3.
A request presented by St. John & Associates on behalf of Core Properties was approved with multiple contingencies. In the initial development plans, a liquor store was proposed for the site along U.S. Highway 278 East near the water treatment plant. A storage facility was planned for later development. The need for sidewalks was noted by commissioner Mike Voss and discussed with David Haynes of St. John & Associates. After much debate, the site plan was approved.
In other business, the following recommendations were approved:
- Request to vacate an unused utility easement at 1101 Old Bolte Road SE
- Annexation request for property at Plunkett Drive Southwest and U.S. Highway 278 West
- Withdrawal of request for proposed multifamily complex on John H. Cooper Drive
