WEST POINT, Ala. – The postseason is here, and it’s win or go home for local teams, including West Point, who took on Russellville with a chance to try and repeat as Class 5A, Area 14 champions. The Lady Warriors took care of the Lady Golden Tigers 77-45 to move on to the championship game and will face Hamilton Thursday night at 7.

Six different players found the scoring column for West Point, including three-pointers by Lexi Shadix, Brooke Brownfield and a pair from Miriam Oldacre, while holding Russellville to just three made baskets in the opening period. The Lady Warriors took a 22-6 lead into the second. During the break, Miriam Oldacre was recognized for scoring her 2,000th point in West Point’s last game against Holly Pond.

West Point continued to spread the ball around in the second quarter and despite the Lady Golden Tigers getting their offense going a little bit, the Lady Warriors still took a 38-20 lead into halftime break.

Free throws by Miriam Oldacre and Mackenzie Carter gave West Point a 43-26 lead early in the third quarter. A Micah Oldacre trey pushed the lead to 47-28 and Molly Pendley made it a 21-point game on a layup. Russellville cut it to 51-35 after an and-one, but a Pendley three helped make it a 55-35 game late in the third period and the Lady Warriors went into the final quarter up by 21.

Emily Wells hit one from deep to push West Point’s lead to 59-35 and Brownfield added another one from long range to make it 62-37. Russellville made it 62-41, but Ryleigh Jones and Wells scored the next nine points for the Lady Warriors to slow down any momentum that the Lady Golden Tigers had going for them and West Point (26-5) pulled away to win the game by a comfortable margin, 77-45.

Miriam Oldacre, Pendley and Carter each finished with 12 points for the Lady Warriors. Brownfield ended up with nine, Shadix added eight, Wells ended up with seven and Jones finished with six.
