Larry Thomas Hammons, 72, of Oneonta, Alabama, passed away on October 1, 2026. Born February 26, 1954, in Alabama, Larry lived a life marked by steady devotion, quiet strength, and a thoughtful way of moving through the world.

Born in Alabama to Milo and Evelyn Hammons, Larry attended Mortimer Jordan High School in Jefferson County. From those early years forward, he carried himself with a calm patience, speaking softly and often keeping to himself, yet leaving a clear impression on those who truly knew him.

Larry worked as a ceramic tile contractor and took genuine pride in his craft. Hard-working and careful by nature, he approached each project with the kind of attention that reflected both skill and respect—work done not just to be finished, but to be done well.

Away from the jobsite, Larry found his peace in the simple joys he loved most. He enjoyed fishing in Smith Lake to the point you would almost have to force the fishing pole out of his hand by the day’s end. He also loved playing the guitar and singing, and he was an avid Alabama football fan. Though quiet, Larry could also be playfully ornery at times, with a dry humor that surfaced when you least expected it and stayed with you long after.

Larry has three daughters, Brooke (Todd) Goodwin, Stacy (Jason) Shaffer, and Tracy (Rob) Kuri; and two sons, Trent (Courtney) Hammons, and Jeremy Hammons. He also has 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Larry is survived by his brother, Jimmy (Brenda) Hammons; and sister Judy (Alfie) Duke. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Hammons.

Larry will be remembered with respect and affection—for his patience, his steady work ethic, his thoughtful presence, and the quiet, humorous spirit that made him unmistakably himself.
