CULLMAN, Ala. – Eight women have been introduced as contestants for Ms. Senior Cullman County. Organizers are preparing for the pageant, which will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Fairview High School auditorium.
Contestants are Angie Carter, Dianne Johnson, Nancy Moore, Belinda Bagwell, Bonnie Sawyer, Becky Bussey, Debbie Roberts and Carol Cline.
The event continues the local pageant’s return following its revival in 2025. A new board brought the competition back last year after the previous local pageant was held in 2019.
Pageant Director Gidget Gregory, now in her second season leading the event, previously told The Tribune that the competition offers two divisions: Ms. Senior Cullman County for women aged 60-69 and Ms. Super Senior Cullman County for women 70 and older.
This year’s scoring includes interview, worth 30%; fun fashion, active wear and evening wear, each worth 20%; and an onstage question, worth 10%.
Audience participation will also help support local causes. Gregory said in The Tribune’s August preview that portions of the People’s Choice proceeds will benefit LEAD and First Source for Women.
“Every dollar donated towards a delegate counts as a vote,” Gregory said.
The pageant’s roots reach back to the late Betty Leeth Haynes, who founded the local event after earning the Ms. Senior Alabama title in 1997. Her goal, Gregory previously told The Tribune, was to give other Cullman County women a similar opportunity.
Cullman County representatives have since earned several state titles.
The Ms. Senior Alabama organization’s records list Elaine Willingham as its 2016 winner, Donna Harris as its 2018 winner and Phyllis Hain as its 2019 winner.
Mary Ellen Hartness became the first Ms. Super Senior Alabama in 2020.
The 2025 local titleholders, Ms. Senior Cullman County Sheri Rasco and Ms. Super Senior Cullman County Mazzie Twilley, also brought home honors from the June 2026 state pageant.
Rasco received the Most Community Support award in her division, while Twilley received People’s Choice in hers.
