HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Susan Moore broke open Friday night’s Class 3A, Region 6 matchup with a 28-point third quarter and defeated Hanceville 61-18 at Ray Talley Stadium.
The Susan Moore Bulldogs carried a 13-0 lead out of the first quarter and added 13 more points in the second. Hanceville got on the scoreboard before halftime, but Susan Moore took a 26-6 advantage into the locker room.
Susan Moore delivered its biggest surge after the break. The visitors scored 28 points in the third quarter while Hanceville added 6, pushing the margin to 54-12 entering the fourth.
Hanceville continued battling and scored 6 more points in the final period. Susan Moore answered with seven to finish the 61-18 region victory.
The 18-point performance was Hanceville’s highest-scoring game since the Bulldogs posted 28 in their season opener against Carbon Hill. Hanceville had been held scoreless in its previous two games against Holly Pond and Glencoe.
Friday’s contest also served as Hanceville’s homecoming game.
Susan Moore improved to 2-4 overall with the win. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the visiting Bulldogs after setbacks against Glencoe, Hokes Bluff and Etowah.
Hanceville fell to 0-6 overall.
Both teams return to action Friday, Oct. 9. Hanceville travels to Etowah for a 7 p.m. kickoff, while Susan Moore hosts Oneonta at 7 p.m.
