CULLMAN, Ala. – Firehouse Subs in Cullman will host a free Touch the Truck event Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., featuring first responders and vehicles from Cullman public safety agencies. Sponsored by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which provides funding and equipment to first responders and public safety organizations, the event will also feature free face painting, children’s activities and a bottled water drive to support local fire departments.
Cullman City firefighters will bring a fire truck, while Hanceville Fire and Rescue will have a rescue vehicle and side-by-side on display. The rescue vehicle will also feature Jaws of Life equipment donated through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. A Cullman County Sheriff’s Office deputy and patrol vehicle will also be on-site.
“Firehouse Subs puts this event on every year at some of the other locations, and when I took over this particular Firehouse in Cullman almost a year ago, I wanted to participate this year in hopes of making our bond with the local firemen and community stronger,” said General Manager Whitney Jennings. “I hope the community gets to meet some of their local firemen and sheriff’s deputies, as well as learn about and actually get to see their vehicles in person.”
As a way to support to local first responders, Firehouse Subs is encouraging attendees to support the participating fire departments by bringing cases of bottled water. Anyone who donates a pack of 24 or more bottles of water will receive a free “Hook and Ladder” sub that day. Donated water will be divided between Cullman Fire Rescue and Hanceville Fire and Rescue.
The event will also offer early access to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Pups, plush dogs based on three real first responder dogs working in the field. The collection includes a German Shepherd, Dalmatian and Golden Retriever, each wearing a Firehouse bandana. Proceeds from the purchases will benefit the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.
