EVA, Ala. – Visitors to West Family Farms in Eva can now walk through the farm’s flower field and cut their own seasonal bouquets during weekly U-pick sessions.
The Morgan County farm is offering reserved picking times from 8-11 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
Each reservation costs $20 and includes the temporary use of flower snippers and a half-gallon jar. Visitors may fill the jar with flowers from the designated picking area.
The farm said zinnias, celosia, marigolds and red spike amaranth are among the varieties currently producing blooms.
Once a visitor finishes picking, farm staff will band the stems and wrap the bouquet in paper for transport.
Alabama Extension identifies zinnias as a popular summer cut flower because they are relatively easy to grow and are available in numerous colors, heights and flower types. Regular cutting also encourages zinnia plants to continue producing blooms.
The U-pick format gives visitors an opportunity to select individual colors, textures and stem combinations rather than purchasing a completed arrangement. It also provides a hands-on connection to a working local farm.
Alabama’s Farmers Market Authority maintains a statewide directory of farms offering pick-your-own opportunities, farm stands and farmers markets as part of its efforts to connect consumers directly with Alabama agricultural producers.
Reservations are required because only a limited number of picking appointments are offered each morning. Visitors should open West Family Farms’ online booking page at https://west-family-farms-llc.square.site, select “U-Pick-Flowers” under Services and choose an open time.
Upon arrival, customers will present the QR code associated with their reservation before receiving their jar and cutting tools.
Because flower availability depends on weather, plant production and the number of stems harvested, the selection may change throughout the season.
West Family Farms is located at 4560 Highway 55 E, Eva, AL 35621.
