As summer draws to a close, excitement is building across our community as the Cullman City School System prepares to welcome 3,200 students back for the first day of school on Aug. 11.
The start of a new school year is always a special time. It represents new beginnings, a fresh start and the opportunity to learn, grow and build lasting relationships. Students will be reunited with old friends while also having the chance to make new ones. For some children, Aug.11 will mark their very first day of school, a milestone that families will remember for years to come. For others, especially our seniors, it will be their last first day, the beginning of a memorable final chapter before graduation. No matter the grade level, the first day of school is a significant occasion.
Our teachers, administrators and support staff are eager to welcome students back into our classrooms. Families are also preparing to transition back into school routines, from earlier bedtimes to morning schedules. Together, let’s make the 2026-2027 school year our best yet.
One of the most important keys to student success is attendance. We encourage every student to arrive at school on time each day and set a goal of achieving perfect attendance. Every school day provides valuable learning opportunities that help students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
As the school year begins, we also ask our parents and community members to help us keep our students and employees safe. Please be mindful of increased school traffic and children walking to and around our campuses. Allow yourself extra travel time, slow down in school zones and remain focused while driving. If you are in a school car line, please stay off your cell phone so your full attention is on the students, staff and other vehicles around you.
The continued support of our families, stakeholders and community is one of the many reasons the Cullman City School System continues to be recognized as one of Alabama’s top-tier school systems.
