CULLMAN, Ala. – At its meeting on Monday, June 15, the Cullman City Council set a public hearing for Ordinance No. 2026-39, regarding residential fencing

Building Inspector Brandon Lewis explained that the ordinance expands on the city’s existing one. He noted the proposed ordinance says fences should not be made of certain materials to avoid potential hazards to public safety. This prevents the use of pallets, scrap and other materials that could infringe on structural integrity. It would be unlawful to erect barbed, electric or razor wire fences on residentially zoned property.

The council set a public hearing for this item for June 20, 2026, at the City Hall Auditorium at 7 p.m. to amend the zoning ordinance section 62-38.

The council approved Resolution No. 2026-112, adopting job descriptions including the Accounting, Administration, Building Inspection, Maintenance, Police, Risk Management, Street and Traffic departments.

The council recently made an announcement online that the week of June 15-19 is National Waste and Recycling Workers Week.

They labeled this week as a time to recognize the hardworking members of the City of Cullman Sanitation Department who help keep our community clean, safe and beautiful every day.

Councilman David Moss announced that the WildWater Cullman Lazy River and Heritage Park Splashpad projects have been completed.

“They’re still finishing up a few remaining details as far as landscaping,” he said. “There will be a grand opening in the next couple of weeks.”

Mayor Woody Jacobs announced that the Heritage Park parking lot project should be completed within the next few weeks.

Council President Kim Hall announced the new City of Cullman website will launch in mid-July.

“It’s very user friendly!” she said.

She also welcomed Cullman High student Grayson Gay and the school’s guidance counselor, Shannon Dutton.

“Mr. Gay was recently recognized as an Alabama Public Television Young Hero. An honor awarded to only three students state-wide for academic excellence, community involvement and perseverance,” she said.

She went on to acknowledge that despite being diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Gay has carried himself with courage, strength and his faith. He has continued to inspire others through his journey.

The Cullman City council formally congratulated the teen for the positive example he continues to provide for students and Cullman residents.

The council adjourned their first monthly meeting and will reconvene on Monday, June 29, at the city hall auditorium at 7 p.m. following a work session at 6. The public is welcome to attend.
