A memorial service for Homer Wendell Whitworth Jr., 66, of Cullman will be 3 p.m. Saturday June 6th at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home.

Mr. Whitworth was born December 17, 1959, in Huntsville, Alabama to Homer & Betty Whitworth. He passed away May 26, 2026, in Cullman, Alabama.

An avid reader and lifelong hobbyist, Homer could often be found browsing the shelves of Books-A-Million or spending peaceful afternoons at the library. One of his favorite treats was enjoying a cup of Joe Muggs coffee while searching for his next great read. He had a special love for science fiction movies, especially Creepshow, and enjoyed sharing those interests with the people closest to him.

Above all, Homer loved his family deeply. He shared a particularly special bond with his daughter, Elise, whom he lovingly nicknamed “Bugroo,” a name that carried warmth, affection, and countless treasured memories. His family will always remember the laughter, conversations, and little moments that made him so special.

Homer was also known for his competitive spirit and active lifestyle. Dart competitions were more than a pastime to him — they were a true passion and a major part of his life. He excelled at basketball and roller skating, talents that reflected both his athleticism and his energetic personality. He also simply loved walking, finding comfort and peace in the quiet rhythm of time spent outdoors.

Though he may no longer walk beside us, the memories Homer created through his love, laughter, and passions will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Mr. Whitworth is survived by his children, Elise Whaley (Tyler); stepson, Josh Hyjek; former wife, Christine Whitworth; brother, Joseph Whitworth (Eleza); nieces, Amber Cullen, Ashley Barksdale (Josh); nephew, Garrett Whitworth (Alli); friend of the family, Karen Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Mr. Whitworth was preceded in death by his parents, Homer & Betty Whitworth; and his baby sister, Dawn Marie Whitworth.

Hanceville Funeral Home is honored to serve the Whitworth family.
