COLONY, Ala. – The Colony Town Council at its Tuesday, May 12, meeting discussed town clean-up efforts and the purchase of a new hitch trimmer mower attachment.

Councilwoman Mary Parker reported that she and Mayor Jasmine Cole had discussed the purchase of a 3-point hitch trimmer mower attachment for a tractor to help clear overgrowth. They council voted to approve the purchase, with a budget of $2,000.

The council also approved the purchase of a load of gravel. The exact amount was not disclosed, but the gravel will be used on Byars Road.

In other business, Cole reported that two town vehicles have issues such as major oil leaks, overheating and starting delays. The council approved the sale of the two vehicles and the purchase of one vehicle. Members said the newer vehicle will be used for council trips such as their upcoming course training in June.

Councilwoman Mallonee Hall, in discussion with Cole, said a town cleanup has been set for Saturday, June 13. Specifics will be provided before the next town council meeting.

Residents are urged to participate in the event. At a recent cleanup of the town’s cemetery, the council said, plenty of people showed up, though they said the work could have been completed much faster if younger residents had participated more.

The cleanup will go from 8 a.m.-noon, but, Cole stated, “It won’t take that long.”

The next Colony Town Council meeting will take place Tuesday, June 9, at 6 p.m. at Colony Town Hall, located at 65 Byars Road.
