GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council, at its meeting on Monday night, approved multiple rezoning ordinances and awarded a bid for the Scott Drive sewer project.

The Scott Drive sewer project received 12 bids. Council members unanimously approved awarding the project to C.D. Roberts Contracting with a bid of approximately $932,000.

The project will add about 6,000 linear feet of new sewer lines along Scott Drive and connect residents currently using septic tanks to the city’s sewer system. Plans also include the construction of a new pump station. Officials said construction is expected to begin in mid-June and take about six months to complete. The project is funded through an Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) grant.

The council also approved Ordinance No. 005-2026 rezoning property at 193 Speegle Road to R-2 residential for a proposed duplex development and Ordinance No. 015-2026 rezoning property at 191 Scott Drive from general business to R-2 residential following a recommendation from the Good Hope Planning Commission.

During council reports, officials discussed ongoing utility and drainage work, along with future park improvements including pavilions, playground shade structures and walking trails.

Republican candidate for Cullman County sheriff Chad Whaley also briefly addressed the council. He thanked members for the opportunity to speak and expressed his excitement about the upcoming Primary Election, which will take place Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

The Good Hope City Council will meet next on Tuesday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Good Hope City Hall.
