CULLMAN, Ala. – The Velvet Page Mobile Bookstore is hosting a pop-up book bar this Saturday, May 16, from 5-7 p.m. at Bloom Winery, 1849 County Road 222 in Cullman. Guests can enjoy a selection of curated books, literary gifts and interactive experiences for all types of readers.

Owner Ema Sargent said she started The Velvet Page earlier this year because she loves books and the community they bring together.

“The Velvet Page is a mobile bookstore that I started this year because I genuinely love books, the community that surrounds them and the connections they create,” she said.

Visitors can explore a range of books, including romantasy, thrillers, contemporary, dark romance and young adult titles. The pop-up will also offer “blind date with a book” packages, themed bundles, annotation supplies and other book-inspired gifts.

Sargent said the blind-date-with-a-book idea is meant to make picking a new book more fun and less overwhelming. Instead of choosing by the cover, customers use clues written on the wrapping.

She said she wants the event to feel more like an experience than a regular shopping trip. “People can expect a cozy, welcoming experience centered around discovering their next favorite book. I really want this to feel more like an experience rather than just shopping, and something fun for longtime readers and for people trying to get back into reading.”

Sargent said she hopes guests leave feeling inspired to discover new stories and excited about what’s next for The Velvet Page, which already has more pop-ups and plans coming soon.
