CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council at its Monday, May 11, meeting approved several special event requests, including the Christina Chambers Twilight 5K Run, honoring the late Christina Chambers.

As The Tribune reported in March, the event is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. at Cotton Creek in Cullman. Organizers say the evening event will bring together runners, walkers and members of the community to celebrate Chambers’ love of running and the impact she had on those around her.

Chambers, a 2006 graduate of Cullman High School and former WBRC sports reporter, died in December 2025 in Hoover. She was 38.

The event is designed as both a tribute and a celebration, highlighting Chambers’ passion for distance running and the determination that defined her life.

Street closures for the Aug. 7 event will begin at 4 p.m., with race check-in beginning at 5. There will be live music from 8:30 p.m.-midnight, with vendors on-site.

“This is going to be a way to honor and celebrate Christina Chambers and her love for Cullman and the running community,” stated Thomas Moss, who presented the event request.

He said 116 people are already signed up and 500 or more are expected.

“Some of the proceeds will be benefiting her son (Constantine) and Willow Path,” Moss said.

Willow Path is a local nonprofit that supports survivors of domestic violence.
