VINEMONT, Ala. – The fifth annual Christian Hart Memorial Cornhole Tournament will take place Saturday, April 4, in the Vinemont Middle School gym. Registration will begin at noon, with games starting at 1 p.m. The tournament will once again feature both social and competitive divisions.

The social division is $40 per two-person team and will use house bags only, while the competitive division is $50 per team, allowing players to bring their own bags, with the exception of real corn- and powder-filled bags. Both divisions will follow a double-elimination format.

A blind draw option will also be available for $10 per person. All divisions will feature a 50/50 payout, with half going to players and the other half supporting the Christian Hart Memorial Scholarship Fund for Vinemont High School.

Food will be available throughout the day, including hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and Pepsi products.

The tournament was created in memory of Christian Hart, whose impact on his family, friends and community continues to be felt by the Vinemont community and beyond. His father, Lynn Shaddix, said the choice to center the fundraiser around cornhole was a personal one.

“For many years, Christian and I would play each other. We had boards at home and we would just play for hours,” Shaddix said. “When we started, I’d let him stand halfway between boards and then back him up as he could throw longer.”

Shaddix described Christian as someone who brought joy to those around him and never hesitated to help others.

“He never met a stranger,” Shaddix said. “His beautiful blue eyes and huge smile would brighten up any room. He would always help the less fortunate or anyone getting picked on. He would stand up for them.”

He added, “Christian was just a joy to be around. Everyone loved him, especially me and his mom Melanie Shaddix.”

Now in its fifth year, the event continues to reflect Christian’s spirit, raising funds for a scholarship that will be awarded to a deserving student at Vinemont High School.

“Vinemont has been so good to us,” Shaddix said. “We can’t express it in words.”
