WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Town Council held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, March 16, highlighting a community partnership that will support a major addition to the town’s recreational space.

The council entered into a $50,000 matching agreement with Premier Bank of the South to fund a playground expansion at the fields by West Point Town Hall, with $25,000 contributed by the Town of West Point and $25,000 donated by Premier Bank. Amy Hogue presented the check to the council during the meeting.

Mayor Timmy Smith expressed his appreciation for the partnership.

“They are a real asset to us as a town. They have donated $25,000 to the new playground expansion. They were so gracious. Thank you very much,” Smith said.

Council members also addressed several items of old business during the meeting. The council approved the finalization of a land purchase totaling $300,000, with half of the cost to be financed and the remaining portion paid upfront.

Updates were also provided regarding ongoing efforts to improve the town’s sewer system. An audit of portions of the system is currently underway, with a team expected to present its findings and project recommendations to the council by the end of April.

In addition, the council discussed potential safety improvements for crosswalks near the football field. Options under consideration include the installation of lighted signage, speed bumps and rumble strips to enhance pedestrian safety in the area.

The next meeting of the West Point Town Council will be held on Monday, April 20, at 6 p.m. at West Point Town Hall, located at 3990 County Road 1141 in Cullman.
