CULLMAN, Ala. – A twilight run in Cullman this summer will honor the life and legacy of a former sports journalist and Cullman native while supporting the child she left behind.

The Christina Chambers Twilight 5K is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. at Cotton Creek in Cullman. Organizers say the evening event will bring together runners, walkers and members of the community to celebrate Chambers’ love of running and the impact she had on those around her.

Chambers, a 2006 graduate of Cullman High School and former WBRC sports reporter, died in December 2025 in Hoover. She was 38.

The event is designed as both a tribute and a celebration, highlighting Chambers’ passion for distance running and the determination that defined her life.

“The Christina Chambers Twilight 5K honors the life and legacy of Christina Chambers, a Cullman native and avid runner whose determination and vibrant spirit inspired those around her,” Cotton Creek said in announcing the event.

“As the sun sets and lights come on, this event brings our community together to celebrate Christina’s love of running and the strength she embodied.”

Organizers said the race will feature a fast and festive course with music and community support throughout the evening.

“Runners and walkers of all levels will take on a fast, fun course filled with energy, music and community spirit,” the announcement said.

All net proceeds from the race will benefit Chambers’ young son, Constantine, as well as local charitable causes chosen in her honor.

“All net proceeds will benefit her son, Constantine, and local charities, helping carry forward the legacy of love she left behind.”

Chambers’ parents, who operate Chambers Farm and Garden Supply in Cullman, are partnering with Cotton Creek to help bring the event to life.

“We have partnered with Cotton Creek as a sponsor to host the Christina Chambers Twilight 5K at Cotton Creek in Cullman,” the family said. “Our daughter Christina loved to run and we hope the community will come together to run or walk for her in this 5K.”

Chambers was widely known in Alabama sports media, having worked as a television sports reporter and later as a broadcast educator and mentor to young journalists. Friends and colleagues have remembered her as energetic, driven and deeply devoted to her family and community.

The twilight start time is intended to create a unique atmosphere as participants run under evening lights in a show of unity and remembrance.

“Lace up, light up and let’s run into the night together, for Christina.”

Registration for the event is now open.
