Area hoops back on regular schedule following winter weather shuffle

CULLMAN COUNTY – Everything should be back on a normal schedule for area high school basketball after games were postponed last Friday due to the threat of winter weather.

The winter storm has moved on, with nine schools inside Cullman County eager to move ahead on the season with a month remaining in the regular season schedule.

For teams in the Cullman County school system, pairings for the county tournament will officially be set on Wednesday. This year's tournament will be held Jan. 23-28 for the varsity teams at Wallace State's Tom Drake Coliseum.

Area games dominate play for the week with 11 of the 16 assignments to be area play.

Going into the week, the Cold Springs Lady Eagles and Eagles are atop Class 2A, Area 13, the Holly Pond Broncos lead 3A, Area 11, the Hanceville Bulldogs are ahead in 3A, Area 12, the Good Hope Lady Raiders are tied for first in 4A, Area 10 and the Fairview Lady Aggies are in first in 5A, Area 12.

The regular season winner will host the area tournament the week of Feb. 6-11.

  •     West Point at Cullman
  •     Good Hope at Hanceville
  •     St. Bernard at Cold Springs (2A, A 13)
  •     Fairview at Hayden (5A, A 12)
  •     Vinemont at Oakman (3A, A 12)
  •     Holly Pond at J.B. Pennington (3A, A 11)

Thursday:

  •     Madison Academy at Cold Springs
  •     Vinemont at St. Bernard

Friday:

  •     Cordova at Good Hope (4A, A 10)
  •     Oakman at Hanceville (3A, A 12)
  •     Carbon Hill at Vinemont (3A, A 12)
  •     Whitesburg Christian at St. Bernard
  •     Holly Pond at Locust Fork (3A, A 11)
  •     Fairview at Curry (5A, A 12)
  •     West Point at Hayden (5A, A 12)
