VINEMONT, Ala. – The Town of Vinemont will host a Valentine’s Day-themed senior community luncheon on Monday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Vinemont Community Center.
Vinemont Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser said they will also be sharing from “Remember When,” a storytelling event encouraging seniors to share memories of Vinemont from years past.
“The last ‘Remember When’ event had to be rescheduled, so it will be a part of this event,” she said. “When attending a senior citizen event, expect a mix of shared meals and opportunities to meet peers in a supportive, often accommodating, environment.”
Sasser said she, Mayor Bonnie Goodwin and the assistant clerk help plan the meals and activities for the monthly community luncheons.
“These events would not be possible without our local businesses in the area helping to support our senior citizens,” Sasser said. “We will be having a candle light Valentine’s luncheon, with pasta, salad and bread. We will also be giving away door prizes that are Valentine’s themed.”
The senior community luncheons have been happening since January 2023.
“Every month since then we have steadily increased the number of our seniors,” Sasser said. “We average around 50-60 seniors each month. We don’t have a theme every month.
These events provide opportunities for seniors to connect, make new friends and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation – a primary reward. The resulting laughter, camaraderie and conversation are invaluable.”
Sasser said Rodger Walling will be sharing the history of Vinemont and encouraging seniors to share memories of Vinemont back in the day at February’s luncheon.
