CULLMAN, Ala. – Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work from the comfort of your own home doing what you love? Patsy Haywood does just that with her local business, Patsy’s Alterations.

Haywood was a nurse for many years, but grew up learning the ins and outs of sewing from her grandmother.

She was ahead of her home economics class in middle school, so her teacher would set aside advanced projects for her. “The teacher showed me how to do drapes and how to alter a pattern before I cut it out,” Haywood shared.

When she was in high school, she got a job doing alterations at Parisian.

“I started as a child,” said Haywood. “My grandmother started teaching me when I was about 9. She was strict, but she made sure I did it right. I can still hear her voice to this day.”

Beatrice Stricklin has passed, but lives on through Ms. Patsy’s sewing, stitchery and alterations.

She’s also well known for wedding and prom dresses. And with prom season approaching, appointments are booking out fast. She advises to call a month ahead of time, though the sooner, the better.

“Everyone should park in the driveway for their appointments and pickup. The City allows me to work from home, but I can’t block the road,” she said.

For appointments, contact 256-612-7653. Text is the preferred contact method and, per Haywood, note in the message that it is regarding an alteration appointment and she will get with you as soon as possible.

Patsy’s Alterations is located at 304 Ward Ave. SW in Cullman.
