Addison hosted the Sumiton Christian Eagles in a boys/girl’s matchup and the home folks came away happy with two wins. The girls opened up with a nail-biting 45-39 win while the boys overcame a slow start to cruise to a 90-42 victory.
Addison 45 – Sumiton Christian 39 (Varsity Girls)
These two teams were fairly evenly matched, and it showed throughout the game. The youthful Lady ‘Dawgs and the Lady Eagles swapped baskets back and forth in the first with the score tied at 10 at the end of the period. The main difference between the two teams was Addison’s six-foot junior center Ava Bartlett, who dominated the paint. Bartlett had four blocks in the first period and no Eagle shot inside that went up got anywhere near the basket. The Lady Eagles had to settle for three three-point baskets for the majority of their points.  Addison’s Kabri Dyson nailed two three-point baskets while Emma Cleghorn put in four points to go with her four rebounds. The Lady Eagles had three young ladies drain a three-pointer to keep them close.
The second period had Addison’s defense step it up a notch, and the Eagles went cold from outside. Addison went on a 6-0 run with a Cleghorn four-foot putback, a Bartlett free throw and a Dyson three. With Addison up 8 it looked good for the Lady ‘Dawgs. A Lady Eagle three stopped the run but Addison was able to win the period 13-6. Addison went into the half with a 23-16 lead. Addison dominated the glass in the second period and finished with 11-5 advantage in the period, and also made eight out of 10 free throws to grab the lead.
The Lady Dawgs are notoriously slow starters in the second half but tonight was a little better. With Addison’s lead cut to two, the Lady ‘Dawgs went on another 6-0 run to put the lead back at eight. Morgan Lee, Saibre Dover and Bartlett each put in buckets for the Lady ‘Dawgs. The Lady Eagles actually won the period 11-10, but Addison still led 33-27 going into the final frame.
The final period was exciting as the lead was cut to two with only 3:15 to go in the game. With Addison clinging to a 38-36 lead, Dover took a pass in the paint and put in the layup with a foul to boot. Dover calmly drained the free throw and Addison’s lead was back up to 41-36. A Lady Eagle three cut the lead to two and that is when young Hadley Welch, an eighth grader, calmly nailed four out of five free throws in the final minute and a half to give the Lady Bulldogs a 45-29 victory. A big shout out to Addison’s Cleghorn as her four fourth-period rebounds nearly matched what the Eagles team got for the entire period.

Addison came out sleepwalking against the Eagles, and it appeared that the Bulldogs were overlooking the Eagles because of a big game on Frida where they’ll host West Point. The Bulldogs were clearly the better team, but missed shots and threw the ball away. Still, the Bulldogs won the first period by dominating the glass. Addison outscored the Eagles 11-9 and it was mainly due to Elijah Roberts who had six rebounds and Scout Flynn who had four points, four rebounds and a block.
