HANCEVILLE, Ala. –  More than 1,600 students and teachers from five area school systems visited Wallace State Community College on Thursday, Oct. 23, to participate in the annual Tools of the Trade expo.

The event is hosted each year for eighth graders to explore potential career opportunities by immersing themselves in hands-on experiences ranging from removing sutures, performing CPR, hammering nails and cutting hair as they visited with programs offered at Wallace State. Area businesses, industries and community organizations also participated, giving students the chance to see prospective jobs and careers available to them and even learn life skills, such as how to write a check.

Co-sponsors of the event include the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, Blount County Economic Development, Cullman Economic Development Agency, Cullman County Economic Development and area legislators Sen. Garlan Gudger, Rep. Health Allbright, Rep. David Standridge and Rep. Tim Wadsworth.

“It was a great day,” said Suzanne Harbin, director of advancement and innovation at Wallace State. “It was an awesome feeling of teamwork and community coming together to show these students the limitless opportunities for careers in the future.”
