CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free Public Safety & Awareness Training “in response to the recent surge in violent incidents nationwide.” The event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Temple Baptist Church on Alabama Highway 157.

“This free event is open to the public and aims to equip citizens with the knowledge and tools to recognize danger, respond effectively and increase their chances of survival in violent or threatening situations,” the CCSO said.

Door will open at 5:30 p.m., with the training from 6-8.

Topics will include:

  • Home, workplace, school and church safety
  • Personal safety and situational awareness
  • Firearms, concealed carry and the legal use of deadly force

Guest speakers will be Sheriff Matt Gentry, Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker and Cullman Police Chief Joey Duncan.

“This training is about empowering our community,” said Gentry. “We want our citizens to be informed, prepared and confident in their ability to protect themselves and their loved ones. At the end of the day, we want everyone to go home.”

Presentations will be led by Investigator Dustin Bentley and Lt. Chad Whaley of the CCSO, both of whom bring extensive experience in law enforcement and public safety education.

There is no cost to attend, and no registration is required.
