Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame to induct new class Oct. 28

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame will induct a new class on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m. at The Loft in Cullman. 

Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame Committee Lead, retired Col. Don Fallin said the mission of the Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame is to recognize and pay tribute to veterans who honorably served our country, displayed great character and continued a lifetime of service to our county, our state and its residents. 

“The Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame is not just a military hall of fame, but also seeks to recognize veterans for their contributions to our community after their service,” Fallin said. “Furthermore, we aim to educate our local county citizens on the historical service and sacrifice of this county’s veterans as well as their service to make our community stronger.”

Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame Committee Members include: 

  • Garry Marchman, US Army, CSM (ret.), VFW Post 2214, American Legion Post 4, DAV Post 101, Cullman County Commissioner
  • Jonathan Green, US Army, VFW Post 2214, DAV Chapter 101, American Legion Post 4
  • Brian Monk, US Army, Commander of VFW Post 2214, American Legion Post 4
  • Hollis W. Baggett, Staff Sergeant (ret.) US Army, DAV Post 101, VFW Post 2214, Hall of Fame Inductee 2024
  • John Riley, president and CEO of Cullman Savings Bank
  • Don Fallin, US Army, Col. (ret.), VFW Post 2214

The Oct. 28 program will include: 

  • Cocktail hour
  • Opening comments:​ Retired Col. Don Fallin
  • Invocation: American Legion Post Chaplain Clarence Benefield
  • Post colors: Cullman JROTC Color Guard
  • National anthem:​ Mrs. Renee Crowe
  • ​Retire colors: Cullman JROTC Color Guard
  • Distinguished guests and sponsor introduction
  • Dinner
  • Induction ceremony
  • Social

 Veterans who will be inducted this year include:

  • Retired Sgt. Maj. Walter Markancel Sutton (United States Marine Corps)
  • Roy Henry Drinkard (United States Marine Corps) 
  • Retired Capt. Robert E. Hain, MC, USN (United States Air Force)
  • Specialist David William Grissom (United States Army)
  • Infantryman Joseph (Joey) D’Andrea (United States Army)
  • Retired Master Sgt. George Roland Krigbaum (United States Air Force)

Fallin said the Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame is administered and sponsored by the Cullman Chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 2214), the American Legion (Post 4) and the Disabled American Veterans (Post 101) on behalf of the Cullman County Commission and municipalities within Cullman County.

“The mission’s tangible and permanent goal is to display within our county courthouse halls the stories of an exemplary few, who represent the goals, the passion, the stories and the memories of our military and its brave service members,” Fallin said.
