CULLMAN, Ala. – A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, claimed the life of Hanceville man, according to Alabama State Troopers. They identified the victim as Billy J. Smith, 44.
Troopers said Smith was fatally injured when the Honda motorcycle he was operating was struck by a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Michelle L. Caples, 39, of Hayden. After the initial impact, they said, Smith was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 31 near County Road 529, approximately 1 mile south of Hanceville, in Cullman County.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
