CULLMAN, Ala. – The Bearcats hosted a big region battle with fourth-ranked Muscle Shoals at Oliver Woodard Stadium Friday and Cullman had its hands full with the Trojans. Muscle Shoals tacked on a pair of touchdowns in the final three minutes of the second quarter to take a 28-0 halftime lead and added two more scores in the second half to defeat the Bearcats 42-0.
Cullman picked up some first downs on its opening possession, crossing midfield with a pass from quarterback Colt Colvard to Kolby Holt. However, the ‘Cats were eventually forced to punt and the Trojans scored on a 62-yard touchdown pass to take an early, 7-0 lead. A 3-yard touchdown run extended Muscle Shoals’ lead to 14-0 early in the second quarter but the Bearcats forced a Trojans punt midway through the period.
A big gain by running back Weston Keel moved the chains for Cullman but an interception cut the drive short and gave the ball back to Muscle Shoals. A few plays later, the Trojans scored on a 19-yard pass to make it a 21-0 game with just under three minutes to play in the second. Muscle Shoals was able to add one more score in the final minute of the first half to take a 28-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Trojans found the end zone again on a fake field goal late in the third quarter to make it a 35-0 game and they tacked on one more score in the fourth quarter to wrap up a 42-0 win over the Bearcats.
Cullman (0-5) will start its three-week stretch of road games with a trip to Brewer next week.
