CULLMAN, Ala. – Republicans Cindy Myrex and Clint Hollingsworth are likely headed for a runoff, as neither topped 50% of the vote in the Tuesday, July 15, Primary for Alabama House District 12. Myrex came closer, at 49.81%.
Primary results with 28 of 29 boxes reporting:
- Cindy Myrex: 2,129 votes (49.81%)
- Clint Hollingsworth: 1,848 votes (43.24%)
- Heather Doyle: 150 votes (3.51%)
- Dan McWhorter: 147 votes (3.44%)
Provisional ballots (box 29) will be counted Tuesday, July 22, at the Cullman County Courthouse. Myrex would need almost all of the approximately 20 provisional ballots to avert the runoff.
If she does not, the State House District 12 Special Primary Runoff Election for the seat previously held by Rep. Corey Harbison, R-Good Hope, will take place Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025. The winner will face Democrat Matthew Glover in the State House District 12 Special General Election on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025.
The Tribune has invited Myrex and Hollingsworth to appear in a live debate at The Tribune office on Aug. 9.
