VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Town Council convened with a packed crowd for its monthly meeting on July 8, with all council members in attendance.
The council got right to business as Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser began reading the resolutions certifying results for council seats in which candidates are unopposed. Kelley Little (Place 1) and Nina Justice (Place 2) retained their seats. Michael Ashbaugh was elected to Place 4, while Ashley Shrader secured Place 5. All four qualified without opposition for the Aug. 26, 2025, Vinemont Municipal Election and received certificates of election. All unopposed electees will take office on Nov. 3.
Council Place 3 remains contested, with incumbent Ross Campbell and Marcus Callingwood set to appear on the Aug. 26 ballot. Voters will also decide the mayoral race between Bonnie Goodwin (current Council Place 4 incumbent) and former councilwoman Shirley Arnett.
Other key highlights of the meeting included the approval of the purchase and installation of the new backstop nets at the Vinemont Sports Complex for $4,841 by Parris Fence. The current nets, installed in 2015, have reached the end of their expected 8–10-year lifespan.
The council also noted the recent completion of several improvement projects, including a solar-powered streetlight installation at the pickleball courts along the South Vinemont Trail and the addition of a water bottle refill station at the pavilion.
The council meeting ended with a discussion of the upcoming Senior Citizens’ Day that will be held at the Vinemont Community Center on July 21, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Pizza and ice cream will be served.
The next meeting of the Vinemont Town Council will be on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Vinemont Town Hall. The work session will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 6.
