CULLMAN COUNTY –  A Birmingham man was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 65 in Cullman County on Wednesday.

According to Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick, Christopher Walker, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, which was in the southbound lanes of I-65 near mile marker 294.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m., when traffic was stopped due to a previous crash.

"A trooper was already on the scene," said Kilpatrick.

"Mr. Walker was in a dump truck and ran into the back of an 18-wheeler that was stopped for the first accident," he said.

Southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for approximately four hours, but are now clear.
