HANCEVILLE – According to Tim Burney, the man in charge of organizing the Hanceville Farmer’s Market each week and the manager of the market’s Facebook page, he was not expecting much for 2016, the market’s first year.

“The bar was not that high for us,” Burney said. “We wanted to provide a place for locals to have the market.”

The market played a part in the revitalization of the Hanceville downtown area. Even though there were no more than 10 vendors on any given day, the activity around the market provided a bit of added foot traffic in the downtown area.

Burney and the other organizers are optimistic about what is in store for Hanceville’s Farmer’s Market.

“We are very excited about the future of the market here,” Burney said. “It brought regular customers and it also brought people back downtown, which is a very good thing.”

According to Burney, there were three to six vendors per day at the market, which is open year-round, unlike the Cullman Farmer’s Market.

“Depending on the crops that were harvested during that time, we might have as many as seven vendors,” Burney said. “We had local vendors bringing freshly baked goods. We hope to have even more vendors during the second season.”

Burney said that, while he would love to see the market grow, there is limited space and making money is not the objective.

“This market is here more as a service to the community than a money-making operation,” he said.

Burney says he is always happy to talk to new vendors who are would like to sell their goods at the market. Interested parties can contact Burney at  256-775-7207.
