CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library’s “seed library” is accepting fruit, vegetable, herb or flower seed donations from visitors.
Cullman County Public Library System Assistant Director Shelby Creekmore told The Tribune about the start of the seed library: “We were inspired to start a seed library two years ago to coincide with our ‘Planning and Planting Your Summer Garden’ program, which we hold annually in March in partnership with the Cullman Alabama Extension Office.”
The seed library is located across from the checkout area and will remain available through the planting season, she said.
“However, it is only successful if people give as well as take. It works like an exchange program: bring in a pack of seeds to trade for ones you don’t already have. We collect both food and flower seeds, so there is something for everyone,” she noted.
Only three packs of seeds can be taken per library visit. In addition to taking seeds, additional seeds must also be donated to keep the library growing.
“The seed library has been successful thanks to donations from patrons and local business partners like the North Alabama Agriplex,” said Creekmore.
The Cullman County Public Library is located at 200 Clark St. NE.
