HOLLY POND, Ala. – The Holly Pond Town Council at its meeting on Monday, May 4, announced park upgrades and discussed the upcoming Pops in the Park event.

The concession stand at Governors Park has been repainted. Councilman Eli Howard said the council is awaiting a quote for the roof of the concession stand and the pavilion nearest to it.

Councilman Dwight Kidd also reported that the picnic tables discussed at a previous council meeting were ordered and have arrived. He said they will be placed as soon as a concrete pad is poured for them in a suitable spot. He advised that spotlights near the recently remodeled restrooms have been installed.

Mayor Pro Tem Paul Brown told those in attendance that the “Slow – Children at Play” and “Deaf Child Area” signs have also been delivered.

Holly Pond Middle and High Schools will present their annual Pops in the Park event on Saturday, May 9, from 4-7 p.m., at Governors Park from 4- 7 p.m. The schools’ choirs and band will perform.

Councilman Dwight Kidd motioned for the council to begin working on this summer’s America 250 Celebration, volunteering himself for the agenda. Councilman Eli Howard offered to assist and seconded the motion. All council members approved.

Moving on to new business, Howard presented a new design for Holly Pond Lions Club Park. Kidd motioned to approve the design, and it was seconded by Carr and passed.

Mayor Carla Hart has received an estimate for the installation of approximately 45 new cameras around the area.

“That would be for town hall, senior center, event center, concession stand and the library,” Brown clarified.

The council discussed tabling this until the June meeting so the new bid could be compared to the existing bid.

After some discussion, however, Howard motioned to approve whichever bid was the most reasonable, to allow the cameras to be set up prior to next month’s meeting. Councilwoman Deborah Holcomb motioned to approve, Kidd seconded and the winning bid was approved.

The Holly Pond Town Council will meet next on Monday, June 2, at 6 p.m. at the Guy Hunt Library.
