WEST POINT, Ala. – Alabama Mountains Rivers Valleys (AMRV) Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) gathered Senate President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman; Rep. Tim Wadsworth, R-Arley; West Point Mayor Tim Smith; West Point Mayor Pro-Tem Ashlee Stancil; and former West Point Mayor Gerald Schafer to announce a $13,700 grant to the Town for recreational and safety improvements to the town park.

The funds for this grant were appropriated to AMRV by the Alabama State Legislature and the Cullman County legislative delegation to help empower local organizations and strengthen local communities. The money from this grant was used to provide proper drainage and dirt to maintain the life of the baseball field and for commercial chain-link fencing to replace an old wooden fence.

Gudger stated he is always glad to see state money come back to Cullman County organizations for local projects.

“I have always enjoyed working with RC&D because they do a great job of bringing taxpayer dollars back to the local community for worthwhile projects like these improvements to the West Point park,” said Gudger. “I also want to thank the town leaders for investing in your community to make West Point a better place to live, work and play.”

Wadsworth praised the West Point leadership for their work on the park.

“West Point has had great leadership with Mayor Schafer and will continue to have great leadership in Mayor Smith who was in the town council,” said Wadsworth. “West Point folks work together for the good of the community. We have always worked to fund the projects requested by West Point officials. The $13,700 is being used to support the park which is a central meeting place for the community. Thank you for reaching out to request support to help your community. I appreciate the support you have given me and our West Point community.”

Smith expressed his gratitude for the funding.

“I would like to thank Sen. Gudger, Rep. Wadsworth and the AMRV RC&D Council for their help in securing these funds for our park,” said Smith. “Their support is not just an investment in our park infrastructure, but in the well-being and future of our town’s citizens.”

AMRV Executive Director Renona Seibert thanked Sen. Gudger and Rep. Wadsworth.

“We couldn’t do what we do without the support of the legislators, so thank you, Sen. Gudger and Rep. Wadsworth, for being here today and for the funding you provide to RC&D,” said Seibert.
