JOPPA, Ala. – Alabama Mountains Rivers Valleys (AMRV) Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) gathered with Senate President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman; Rep. Heath Allbright, R-Holly Pond; and local leaders to announce a $15,000 grant for the restoration of the Joppa Normal and Industrial Collegiate Building.
The funds are appropriated to AMRV by the Alabama State Legislature and the Cullman County legislative delegation to help empower local organizations and strengthen local communities.
Gudger thanked the Joppa community for their efforts to restore the building.
“I think this building will be a great benefit for the Joppa area,” said Gudger. “I want to thank all of the community members who have given their time to the renovation efforts, and to AMRV RC&D for helping with the funding. You have done a fantastic job rescuing this wonderful building and making it once again the center of the Joppa community. I am proud to have played a small part in that.”
Allbright praised the residents for their work in pursuing the grant.
“I very much appreciate each of you being involved in your community to make projects like this come to fruition and to take the initiative to ask for the grant money,” said Allbright. “The Legislature appropriates money to RC&D, but it’s not the Legislature’s money. It’s your money, and I’m just glad to see some of it coming back home for a worthy project.”
AMRV Executive Director Renona Seibert thanked Gudger and Allbright, grantees and the local AMRV RC&D board of directors.
“Thank you everyone for being here and for the contributions you make to your community. We couldn’t do what we do without the support of the legislators, so thank you, Sen. Gudger and Rep. Allbright for being here today and for the funding you provide to RC&D,” said Seibert.
