BERLIN, Ala. – New and incumbent members of the Berlin Town Council were sworn in at the council’s meeting on Monday, Nov. 3.

Vinemont Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser administered the oaths of office for Mayor Patrick Bates and  Councilmembers Donald Gunter, Edith Stevenson, Eudon Bates and Keith Hardman. Councilman Steven Michael Clark was not in attendance and will be sworn in at a later date.

Bates continued the meeting by prompting, “Next item is the election of the mayor pro tem. Since we have been founded our mayor pro tem has been Donald Gunter.”

“Council,” he asked, “do we want a different pro tem or do we want to continue with Mr. Gunter?”

Gunter expressed that he would like to resign the duty. In his place, the council chose Hardman as the new mayor pro tem.

“We are also required to hire a town clerk at this meeting,” Bates laughed. Council members motioned for Keirstyn Montgomery, and Sasser swore her in.

The council then moved on to approve resolutions 15, 16 and 17:

  • Resolution 15 states the council is authorized to store funds at any bank or savings and loan in Cullman County that is qualified by the State. It also provides the council with the flexibility to move banks if necessary.
  • Resolution 16 acknowledges mileage reimbursement rates. It states the council will follow the standard millage rate given by the IRS, which is currently 70 cents a mile.
  • Resolution 17 addresses the time and place for Berlin Town Council meetings. The council members collectively agreed on the third Monday of each month at 7p.m.

The Berlin Town Council will hold its next meeting on Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. at Berlin Town Hall at 461 County Road 1615, Cullman, AL 35058. For more information, contact Montgomery 256-736-3138 or clerk@berlinal.gov.
