HANCEVILLE, Ala. – After collecting a dominant, 20-2 win at Fultondale earlier this week, the Hanceville Bulldogs were back home to take on Susan Moore Thursday night. The Bulldogs fell behind 4-0 in the second inning and plated a couple runs to cut into the lead in the third but couldn’t overcome the early lead and dropped the matchup with Susan Moore 6-2.
Susan Moore put runners on the corners to lead off the game, and a passed ball put them on the scoreboard first. A two-run single gave them a 3-0 lead, then an RBI single in the top of the second made it 4-0. Hanceville got something going in the bottom of the second. Cordarryl Wilson drew a one-out walk and later moved to second on an error. Hunter Black drew a walk of his own to put runners on first and second with one out. Wilson scored on a passed ball to cut it to 4-1, then an out later, Jackson Howell hit an RBI single to make it a two-run game.
Susan Moore added two more runs in the top of the fourth on a ground ball and an RBI double, and Hanceville couldn’t get going after that, as Susan Moore would go on to defeat Hanceville, 6-2.
Howell collected a pair of hits and an RBI for Hanceville.
Cold Springs 14 – Addison 11 (Softball)
Cold Springs struck first in the bottom of the first inning. They put runners on first and second to lead off the inning, and Brooklyn Ingram lined a two-run double to center field to give them the early lead. One out later, Ingram scored on an Addison error to make it 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs countered in the top of the second. Summer Evans hit an RBI double to center field to put them on the scoreboard, and Kayce Wood later scored on an Lady Eagle error to cut it to 3-2. Later that inning, Savannah Miller hit an RBI single to tie the game up at three, then an error allowed Miller and Mackenzie Carter to score to give the Lady Bulldogs a 5-3 lead.
Back-to-back RBI doubles by Kaydance Williams and Ingram tied the game up at five in Cold Springs’ half of the second. Ingram later scored on an error, and Cloe Shelton added an RBI single to give them a 7-5 lead. Addison got the lead right back in the top of the third. Evans hit an RBI single, and back-to-back RBI groundouts by Katie Barrett and Preslei Atkins saw them retake the lead at 8-7. A two-run single by Williams, followed by an RBI triple by Ingram, gave the Lady Eagles the lead right back at 10-8 in their half. Ingram and Shelton each scored on another Lady Bulldog error later that inning to extend their lead to 12-8.
Addison cut it to 12-9 in the top of the fourth on an RBI bunt single by Mattie Johnson and in the sixth, they made it a one-run game on a two-run single by Annabeth Powell. Cold Springs, though, countered in their half, as Williams’ two-run single made it 14-11. The Lady Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh, but a fly out to right field ended the game, and Cold Springs would go on to hold off Addison, 14-11.
Williams (five RBIs) and Ingram (four RBIs) each finished with three hits for the Lady Eagles, and Shelton added a hit and three RBIs. For Addison, Powell (two hits), Evans (two hits), and Barrett (one hit) all finished with a pair of RBIs, while Miller (four hits), Johnson (two hits), and Atkins (one hit) all collected an RBI of their own in the game.
Brewer 13 – Cullman 2 (Softball)
Hattie Graham’s RBI single gave Cullman the early lead, but an error and an RBI single gave Brewer a 2-1 lead in their half of the first. A sacrifice fly made it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the second. Kynlei Storey’s RBI groundout in the top of the third trimmed the deficit to 3-2, but the Lady Patriots exploded for eight runs in their half to break the game wide open. Cullman couldn’t recover from that, as Brewer would go on to roll past the Lady Bearcats, 13-2.
Graham finished with a hit and an RBI for Cullman, and Abby Maples collected a hit of her own in the loss.
Good Hope 10 – Fairview 0 (Softball)
Good Hope got out to a quick lead, and Molly Benefield pitched another superb game on the mound, as the Lady Raiders ended up shutting out Fairview on the road, 10-0.
Maggie O’Neil drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an RBI single by Campbell Koch to give Good Hope a 1-0 lead. Lizzy Steed’s two-run double in the top of the second made it a 3-0 game. Kylee Smith added a two-run double of her own in the top of the third, as that extended the Lady Raider lead to 5-0. An RBI single by O’Neil made it 6-0 in the top of the fourth. Steed later scored to make it 7-0, and Natalie Miller hit a two-run triple to stretch their lead to 9-0. Steed added an RBI double in the top of the fifth to put the final score at 10-0.
Steed finished with three hits and three RBIs for Good Hope. Smith (two hits) and Miller (one hit) each added a pair of RBIs, while Koch (two hits) and O’Neil (one hit) each collected an RBI in the game. Benefield pitched a one-hit shutout for the Lady Raiders, as she walked one and struck out nine. Ayda Payne’s double was the only hit of the game for the Lady Aggies.
West Point 15 – Hanceville 0 (Softball)
It was all West Point in this one, as a big fourth inning helped propel them to a dominating win on the road over Hanceville.
Jones finished with a grand slam and a double in the game for the Lady Warriors. Cabri Blackwood (two hits), Lauren Wyndham (one hit) and Brayley Phillips (one hit) all posted a hit and two RBIs, and Katie Beth Yovino collected an RBI of her own in the win. Kortni Baker gave up just three hits in her four innings of work, walked one, and struck out two. Alex Twitty finished with a pair of hits for Hanceville, and Bella Spinks added a hit of her own in the loss.
Good Hope 8 – Vinemont 7 (Baseball)
Vinemont struck first in its opening at-bats. Rylan McRae drew a two-out walk and would come around to score on an RBI single by Hayden Robinson to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Robinson later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Vinemont made it 3-0 in the top of the second on an RBI double by Nicolas Jankowski. Good Hope cut into the deficit in the bottom of the third. A pair of RBI singles by Carter Rutherford and Carter Naramore made it a one-run game.
An RBI groundout by Tucker Mauter and a suicide squeeze play by Jankowski gave Vinemont a 5-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but Parker Johnson’s RBI single with one out cut it to 5-3 in the Raider half of the fourth. Robinson drew a one-out walk in the top of the fifth, and after he moved up to second on an error, Owen McKinney hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to extend the Eagle lead to 7-3.
A hit by pitch and a walk with two outs put Good Hope in business in their half, and Caden Drake hit the second pitch he saw over the left field fence to trim the deficit to 7-6. The Raiders carried that momentum over into the sixth inning. Mason Drake hit a one-out single, and after he stole second, Naramore drove him in on an RBI single, as that tied the game up at seven. Vinemont loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh, but a ground ball got Caden Drake out of the inning unscathed.
Kane Anderson led off the Good Hope seventh with a single. He moved up to second on an error, and Nash Landon hit a single of his own to put runners on the corners with nobody out. One out later, Blake Cordes lined the third pitch he saw to left field for the game-winning RBI single, as the Raiders picked up a huge 8-7 come-from-behind win over Vinemont at home.
Caden Drake finished with the three-run home run for Good Hope. Naramore added a trio of hits and two RBIs. Johnson and Rutherford each posted a pair of hits and an RBI, while Cordes collected the game-winning hit for the Raiders. McKinney finished with the two-run home run for the Eagles. Jankowski added a hit and two RBIs, while Robinson (one hit) and Mauter each collected an RBI in the game.
