Andrew Marston Tubbs (何愛祖) was born on December 16, 1978, in Cullman, Alabama to his Air Force veteran father, Terry Tubbs, and his Taiwanese/Chinese mother, Susan Ho (何秀珊). Andrew passed away in Cullman on December 17, 2024, at the age of 46.

Cullman Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.

Andrew grew up on his father’s family farm in the Mt Joy community in southern Cullman County, Alabama. He spent his early childhood traveling abroad and visiting his mother’s family in California, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Andrew was partially bilingual in Mandarin Chinese.

Andrew grew up going to his family’s local house of worship, Mt Joy Missionary Baptist Church where he cherished the love and support of his neighbors and community. He went to Cold Springs school K-12, attended Wallace State Community College, and Culinard Culinary School.

He began work in his adolescence by working side-by-side with his mother, father, and brother in his mother’s Chinese restaurant, Susy’s Wok. He worked hard with his family to make ends meet. After his mother’s restaurant closed, he spent many years working at Cullman’s Cracker Barrel as a cook where he took great joy in working with friends. He loved his work family and spent many nights hanging out with his fellow coworkers, chatting and laughing into the late morning hours.

Andrew was an empathetic and jovial individual that touched the lives of the people around him. He always showed his love and appreciation to his friends. Many have spoken out about how Andrew helped them through difficult times. He always took the calling to help his community in times of crisis, such as cooking meals for the locally affected in Cullman after the devastation of the tornadoes in 2011. As someone that overcame his own past substance usage, he often counseled and encouraged friends that were adopting a life of sobriety. His family and friends were very proud of his dedication and resilience to remain alcohol free. He was one month shy of reaching 10 years of sobriety.

Andrew enjoyed going to movies, pro wrestling events, Dragoncon, and Heavy Metal concerts with his brother and friends. Playing board games and Dungeons and Dragons with his gaming friend groups was a favorite activity. Andrew was a big-time cat lover. His furry buddies gave him much love and joy and he always helped any animal he saw in need.

Andrew is proceeded in death by his beloved mother, Susan; his maternal grandparents, Quen and Edward Ho; his cousin, Jonathan Kang; his paternal grandfather, Jack Tubbs; and great grandparents Lily and Alvin Tubbs. He is survived by his grandmother; Anna Sue; father, Terry; brother, Peter; sister-in-law, Hannah; and many beloved cousins, aunts, and uncles locally and afar- from Georgia and California, to Taiwan and Hong Kong.

A graveside memorial service will be held for Andrew on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Mt Joy Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. Brother Steve Rogers of Cullman Funeral Home will be leading the memorial service. Please be mindful of the weather conditions and wear appropriate clothing if it is raining or cold.
