CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman High School swim teams turned in a dominant performance Thursday night, Sept. 3, with both the girls’ and boys’ squads finishing first overall at the 2026 Cullman Sprint Invitational.
Under the direction of head coach Cory Goble, the Bearcats finished atop both team standings, with the girls scoring 113.5 points and the boys tallying 108 points. Cullman’s combined score of 221.5 points placed the Bearcats comfortably in first place overall.
Cullman swimmers recorded eight event victories throughout the meet while also posting 12 new personal records, highlighting a strong night of individual and relay performances.
Camp Smith led the way for the Bearcats with three individual victories, winning the 100-yard freestyle (51.97), 50-yard butterfly (25.28) and 50-yard backstroke (27.47). Tate Tysinger added a victory in the 100-yard individual medley (1:06.70), while Mika Lackey won the 50-yard butterfly (29.56) and Edie Hudson captured the 50-yard breaststroke (34.13).
Cullman also opened the meet with a pair of strong performances in the 200-yard medley relays.
The girls’ relay team of Mika Lackey, Edie Hudson, Sofia Velez and Tori Rees won the event in 2:01.47, while the Bearcat boys followed with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as Karson Corliss, Tate Tysinger, Camp Smith and Dallas Hammons posted a winning time of 1:49.44.
Cullman continued to pile up points throughout the meet.
In the girls’ events, Hudson finished second in the 100-yard individual medley and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, while Sofia Velez added a second-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly and fourth-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke. Faith Peek and Preslie Basch finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.
The Bearcat boys were equally strong. Karson Corliss finished second in both the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke, while Briar Lackey placed third in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle. Dallas Hammons also added a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Bearcats narrowly missed another relay victory in the closing events. Cullman’s girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay of Edie Hudson, Preslie Basch, Tori Rees and Mika Lackey finished second in 1:55.68, while the boys’ relay of Karson Corliss, Dallas Hammons, Tate Tysinger and Camp Smith finished second in 1:40.01. Both relay teams achieved state-qualifying times.
With both teams claiming the top spot in the standings, Goble and the Bearcats closed out the invitational with a strong showing from top to bottom, recording quality individual performances, strong relay efforts and numerous personal records as the season continues.
