PREP FOOTBALL: Cold Springs’ offense has a day as the Eagles dominate Locust Fork, 42-0

LOCUST FORK, Ala. – Cold Springs headed southeast to Locust Fork High on Friday night to play their first away game of 2026 after taking down county foe Vinemont, 9-0, last week. 

It didn’t take long for Cold Springs to find a groove, and once they did, they never got out of it. Locust Fork never threatened and the Eagles walked to a 42-0 road victory to move to 2-0 on the season. 

The Eagles began the night with one of very few drives that resulted in zero points, going three-and-out and punting the ball to the Hornets. After a big gainer for the Locust Fork offense was called back due to holding, however, Cold Springs forced pressure on the Hornets’ quarterback, who put too much air under a ball he was trying to throw out of bounds, and it was picked off by Cold Springs’ Cason Alexander, setting the Eagles up with 1st & 10 at the Locust Fork 18 yard line. Just three plays later, Cooper Johnson punched the ball in from a yard out, and after a made extra point, Cold Springs led 7-0. 

On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles recovered the football, giving them a chance to build on their early lead. On the first play, however, Alexander fumbled the ball, and Locust Fork recovered at their own 33. The run on turnovers would continue, though. Edge rusher Breydon Hallmon stuffed a run on first down, and after a short run, Eagle quarterback and defensive back Ethan Day read the play beautifully and came down with an interception to set his offense up in Hornet territory. 

Day’s offense produced some short gains to get them just outside the red zone, then Cold Springs executed a hook-and-ladder to perfection, and Tidus Light scored from 22 yards out to make it a 14-0 Eagle lead mid way through the first.

After a scary injury to a Locust Fork defender delayed the game for over 15 minutes both teams traded empty possessions, then Cold Springs mounted a 91-yard drive where they marched the ball downfield, eventually scoring when Day rolled out to his left and found Eli Voce in a soft spot in coverage, who then spun and took off for a 41-yard touchdown to put the Eagles up 21-0 right before the half ended. 

The Hornets came up empty once again on their first possession of the second half, and Cold Springs picked up right where they left off, with a Day screen pass to Voce going for a 20-yard touchdown to stretch the lead to 28-0 early in the third quarter. 

On the Hornets next possession, Brandon Chasteen recorded a toe-tapping interception to set up the Eagles just inside Locust Fork territory at their 49, and after a few short runs, Day pulled the ball down and took off, shook a few defenders and spun his way to a 34-yard rushing touchdown to make it 35-0 in favor of Cold Springs. 

As the clock started in the fourth quarter, Locust Fork had made it into Cold Springs territory for what felt like the first time of the game, then the play of the night was made by Voce on the Eagles’ defense. The Hornets’ quarterback forced a ball into coverage, and Voce picked it off with one hand at the Eagles’ 22 yard line, spun around, hurdled a defender and returned the pick all the way down to the Locust Fork 18. Three plays later, Alexander punched in another touchdown to make it 42-0, which would be the final score on the night. 

The Eagles will host Lamar County next Friday, and will look to continue an impressive start to the 2026 season.
