MOULTON, Ala. – After picking up a win at Ardmore last week, the Fairview Aggies were on the road once again Friday night, this time for a big region battle at Lawrence County. Fairview jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter but had to fend off a late push from the Red Devils to escape with a 28-25 win.

A big run by Kolt Redding set the Aggies offense up down around the 5-yard line early in the first and Carson Jones took a handoff into the end zone from 3 yards out to give Fairview a 7-0 start. The Aggies drove deep into Lawrence County territory on their next possession, but an interception cut the scoring opportunity short and gave the ball back to the Red Devils.

The Aggies made up for it on their next possession when Jake Harper took a handoff 58 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0 with five minutes to play in the first quarter. Lawrence County put together a scoring drive and found the end zone just before the end of the first to trim the lead to 14-7 at the start of the second. Fairview responded when Redding found Zayden Cruce through the air for an 18-yard touchdown and put the Aggies ahead 20-7. A bad snap on the extra point forced Conner Scott to roll out with the ball and he hit Blake Rickard in the end zone for a two-point conversion to make it a 22-7 game with around seven minutes remaining in the first half.

However, a turnover on downs gave the ball back to the Red Devils late in the second quarter and they scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass as the first half expired to cut the Aggie lead to 22-14 going into the locker room at the break.

A Lawrence County field goal made it a 22-17 game midway through the third quarter, but Fairview was able to add to its lead early in the fourth. Harper punched one into the end zone from a yard out to give the Aggies a 28-17 lead with 10:45 to play but they were unable to get the two-point conversion.

A 30-yard Red Devils touchdown run followed by a successful two-point conversion brought the lead down to 28-25 with 8:35 remaining and on the ensuing possession, a Fairview fumble gave the ball back to Lawrence County near midfield. Fortunately for the Fairview faithful, the Aggies’ defense was able to force a turnover on downs on and the offense picked up a couple first downs to run out the rest of the clock and secure a 28-25 win.

Redding led the Aggies with 136 yards on the ground, followed closely by Harper with 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jones added 45 yards and a touchdown in the win and Cruce hauled in six catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Fairview improves to 4-0 with the win and the Aggies will be off next week before traveling to Russellville on Oct. 4.
