HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Hanceville sophomore cheerleader Audrey Faye is in her second year on the varsity squad, and she has enjoyed every second of the experience so far and feels blessed to be around a great group of girls.

“My experience has been amazing. I’ve learned that you have to believe in yourself to achieve the goals you want and that you have to show up and put in the hard work to get through the challenges,” Faye said. “It’s been great. I have gained some of my greatest friendships from people that cheered alongside me last year. I will forever be grateful for the things that past girls have taught me. I also have made many great memories with the girls that are currently on the team. We all push each other to be our very best. We all have a special bond. What I’ve learned from these girls is that you can do something that you never expected you could do. All you have to do is believe in yourself and accept the support they are giving you.”

Audrey feels so honored to be cheering under some great coaches in Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Radcliff and has soaked up so much from them so far. She has seen a lot of improvement during her time cheering with the varsity squad.

“They are some of the best coaches I have ever had. They always believe in me. They both have helped me tremendously in becoming the cheerleader that I am today. What I’ve learned from them is that I can push through any challenge that is thrown my way, and I can come out of it being the very best version of myself,” she said. “I have seen great improvement in my performance this season. I have learned many new skills, and my performance level is much higher than it was when I first joined the varsity team. The thing that I believe I have improved on the most is definitely my attitude. You always have to think positive thoughts.”

Hanceville’s varsity squad placed 14th out of 28 teams at state earlier this season, and Audrey talked about that amazing experience. She feels blessed to be around an amazing cheer squad, and she talked about some of her role models in cheerleading.

“Our coaches made many improvements to our routine, and I believe the state competition was our very best one. Competitions are always nerve-racking, but if you practice how you perform and give it your all, you will do amazing. I feel we all did amazing. I learned that if you believe in yourself and your team, you can go to some of the best competitions,” she said. “What has made my cheer team special to be around is that we all get along, we all support each other, and we all love each other like sisters.”

She added,

“Some of my biggest role models are three girls I cheered with last season: Jasmine McDonald, Destiny Warren, and Reagan Edwards. They all have given me great friendships and have taught me to never give up on what I love and to always make the best out of every situation.”

She talked about the best advice that someone has ever given her, how important it is to be a role model for the younger girls, and what she has learned the most about herself and this team so far.

“The best advice that someone has ever given me is that if I want something, I have to fight hard to get it,” she said. “It is probably one of the most important things in my cheer life. I want all of the younger girls to be able to look up to us and be excited to get to high school and be a cheerleader. It really is one of the best things in my life. What I have learned the most is that not everything and everyone is perfect. We all have our ups and downs, but we all push through it in the end.”
