Charlene “Janie” Johns Clark of Hanceville took her first breath in the presence of her Lord, Jesus, on Aug. 10, 2023. Janie was known as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She never met a stranger and loved working with the public. She has many friends from her days at Cullman Industries and Piney Grove Fruit Stand, the Cloth Barn, and Glover’s Plants and Produce.

Janie was a social butterfly and the life of the party as the youngest child often is. She was known to say that she wished she had spent more time learning rather than socializing during her school days, but those who knew her, know she was a woman of wisdom and grace, and she was also a barrel of fun!  Many in her family, and those kids from “another mother”, came to her for her loving kindness and wisdom. She was a woman of courage and bravery who left a legacy of love and forgiveness.

Janie put her faith in Jesus, her Comforter and Savior many years ago.  She said in her darkest moments of fear He drew near to her to give her comfort, and that her suffering was nothing compared to the suffering of the nails He had driven into his flesh when He died for our salvation.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Una Johns, her sisters Dee (Fayette) Bradford and Myra (Kenneth) Boyd, her brother Charles (Sara) Johns, and her beloved children, Melissa who passed shortly after her birth, and her son, Jeff Clark whom she adored.  She looked forward to the day that she would meet them again in glory.

Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-love, Leesha and Shanon Fischer, her precious grandchildren, Lacey and Les, and several nieces and nephews. Her niece Debbie (Johnny) Moore was always a close friend to her throughout her life. Kaye (Mark) Bentley was her tender and compassionate caregiver, not just to Janie, but helped Leesha like a sister would, as well.

Her friends David and Jeanette Nichols were among her most devoted and loyal friends to the very end. Center Hill Baptist Church, her church family, gave her much comfort and encouragement. Gentiva Hospice provided her a great nurse in Jackie Lombardi, who grew to be part of the family, and was her advocate to the very end.

Many of her friends preceded her to glory, but those left behind will long for the day when we will see her again.  We will not grieve as those who have no hope, but as those who believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.  1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
